Report of the Committee of the Council appointed to enquire into the Complaints of the Indians at the Treaty at Easton the Eighth day of November 1756

              To the Honorable William Denny Esq. Lieutenant Governour & Commander in Chief of the Province of Pennsylvania & Counties of Newcastle, Kent, & Sussex, upon Delaware.
the Report of the Committee of the Council appointed to enquire into the Complaints of the Indians at the Treaty at Easton the Eighth day of November 1756.
May it please your Honour;
Agreeable to the Order of Council appointing us a Committee to enquire into the pretended causes assign'd by the Indians at the Said Treaty for their striking the English & destroying so many of our Back Inhabitants & their Complaints of Injustice, said to be done them by the Proprietaries in some of their Indian Purchases; We have carefully look'd into & consider'd the same, & also the Proprietaries Deeds for their several Indian Purchases, from the first Settlement of the Province down to this Time; with other the Instruments, Books, Papers & Evidences which could furnish us w/th any Lights in the Affair.
We conceive the Substance of Teedyuscung's Charge & Complaints (made on behalf of the Delaware Indians &c. at the Said Treaty) may be reduc'd to these five Heads.
1st. That the Ground he they stood on (the land on the Forks of Delaware) was his Land & Inheritance & was taken from him by Fraud, & when he said this Ground he meant all the Land between Tohicon Creek & Wyomink.
2nd. Being call'd on to explain what he meant by Fraud he answer'd, that when a Man had Liberty to purchase Land, & he took an Indian Deed for it & then dies, after his Death his Children forge a Deed like the true one with the same Indian names to it, whereby they take Land from the Indians, which they never sold. This is Fraud.
3d. That when one King has Land beyond the River & another King has Land on this side both bounded by Rivers, Mountains & Springs which cannot be mov'd, & the Proprietaries greedy to purchase Lands buy of one King what belongs to the other; this is also Fraud.
4th. Being ask'd if he had been us'd in that Manner, he answered, yes, I have been serv'd so in this province. All the Land from Tohicon over the great Mountains to Wyomink has been taken from me by Fraud, for when I agreed to sell the Land to the old Proprietary by the Course of the River, the Young Proprietaries came & gott it run out by a straight Line
