Fort Frederick 1mo: 17th 1759
Loving Friend
I wrote to thee by the waggoners which I hope those hast rec'd e'er now
but lest it should not come duly to hand I may hereby inform thee that I delivered a
short writing to each of the waggoners desiring N. Hussey to pay
To Robert Jones for carrying 22..1..14 ..13..0..6
To Wm. Whinney . . . . 24..2..15. . . . .14..15..6
To Deter Moyer . . . . 23..1..10. . . . .14..-..-
To Conrod Miller. . . .18..3..20. . . . .11..7..2
[totals] 89..1..3 53..11..2
Beside which weight there was carried among them about 1 into the bargain.
I wrote to thee in the above mentioned Letter that the Goods were all delivered but I
have by further Inspection found that there is a considerable want in the cash of
Lead carried by Deter Moyer which I understand by James must have happened
between the Ferry & Moyer's [?], for after that he had set the cash on the end as it
stood when delivered here I weighs not but 3..1..5Nh & ye Tare 10th[?] and by the 1mo
it should be 4..1..14Nh tho in the Secod. I was furnished with at the Ferry it is called 5
so that I have allowed Moyer too much for carriage Viz: 1:2:13 a 12/ is 19/4 and there
wants of the due weight of the Lead 1..0..9 which [?]haps he will not readily agree to
pay for but I intend immediately to write to Nathan Hussy about it just stating the
case that by agreement under their hands it is expressly mentioned that they should
deliver all and every part of the Goods safe at Fort Frederick and deisre him to inform
Moyer that I expect he will leave the above 19/4 and the value of the Lead which
I suppose may be about 46/[?] and comes to 2..9..8^..19..4}3..9.- in his hands and
request him to inform thee how it succeeds and if those desires me to be further active
about it please to write me thereupon.
Quickly after the goods were delivered here I went over to Hopewell and staid
till their first day meeting having before had some discourse with some of them &
after meet'g with other on the matters those mentioned they thought that if I would
put in writing what I had to say they would consider it at their monthly meet'g next
2nd day and I intend herewith to send a Copy of what I wrote. I make no doubt of their
collecting some Corn but perhaps it mayn't be much their crops having been light &
they are now Subscribing to build a Meeting house which they much want.
As to waggons they can be had either there or here tho' I have not seen James Long
yet J. Kinny did while I was in Virginia and he told him that waggons enough might be
had but did not mention the price neither was I inform'd in Virginia/only 97/was usual/
not knowing that we should have occasion to push forward just now and considering if
the Kings contractors had got the start of me and bid very high for Freight to Pittsburg
I thought it might be as well to delay talking of the price for a while But on receiv.g
thine/ of the 8th past/this day it puts me on to consider about agreeing and expect
