The Following Acct. is given by some of the Trustees, who atteneded the late Treaty with the Indians of Easton[?] The governor having on the 5th instant in the morning sett out from Philadelphia with his Secretary, several of the Trustees & other Friends followed in the afternoon & others the next day; at Samuel Dean's about 20 miles from Easton. One of the Trustees (Israel Pemberton accompany'd by Charles Sompton) overtook the Governor & were inform'd that on some[?] intelligence sent by the Morravian from Bethlehem of the Indians intending some mischief The Governor had stopp'd & did not design to proceed further, till the Comissioners came up & He had receiv'd an answer to a mesage he had sent to Col. Weiser at Easton-- The Governor was then inform'd that the Comissioners were gone another road & would probably that night reach John Chapman's ten miles farther on the way tow'd Easton & that they intended likewise to go thither, not being apprehensive there was any danger from the Indians-- The Secretary therefore wrote a letter to the Comissioners, which on coming to Chapman's & finding the Conel not come so farr was imediately sent by messenger to meet them on the road they were coming & as the two roads meet at this place & the Governor & Comissiners were expected to meet here to morrow. they thought of waiting their coming, but the next morning hearing that C. Weiser was coming to meet the Governor & apprehending if the Sheriff & people of Easton should come out in the manner usual on these occasions, it might give the Indians umbrage to be left there with there was reason to fear as the Governor's coming had been delay'd several days long than expected therefore IP & CP[?] concluded to go forwards to Easton- About noon on the
7th. They arriv'd there & on the Bank of the river before the ferry h.[?]
were receiv'd by the Indian Chief Tedyuscung & abt 15 or 16 of his People
with a hearty welcome- They appearing much pleas'd with their Coming &
were imediately inquisitive abt the Governor's coming & being told he was left
on the road & would be here soon. They said they had been so often told
