Easton 26th: 10mo: 1758
Esteemed Friend
I deferr'd acknowledging thy Letter from Ray's
Town in hopes of soon finding an agreeable
account of the Issue of our Treaty with the Indians
I have been here attending it 20 Days I am heartily
concern'd that the honour of our King and Country
is so little consider'd or understood; the Business
might have been done better in a Week but now is
left at last in great Confusion. Our Governor went away
two days since not giving the Indians time to answer
what he last said to them, & has never once dined with
any of their Chiefs, nor visited their Camp while
he was here.
The long Delay of the Allegheny Messengers
disappointed them much & they had not at last such
Company of our People as they expected & desir'd; honest
Post will I expect overtake them & try to engage them to
go by Way of Ray's Town; from the account he has
given of his Journey for he tells us he must not show his
Journal, I expect it will be of Service & heartily wish the
united Endeavours[sic] of those concern'd for the real
Honour & Interest of our Country may be bless'd
with a happy Event.
I am [unclear].
General Forbes
