The Answer of King Beaver to his Honour
the Governor
Brother give attention to what I say for I speak from my
Heart, & think nothing the less of it tho' the Strings be small.
Brother I now tell you that what I have hear'd from you is quite
agreeable to my Mind, and I love to hear you. I tell you likewise
that all the Chiefs at Allegheny are well pleased with what you
have said to me, and all my Young Men Women & Children
that is capable to Understand it are well pleased with what you
have said to me. Brother you tell me all the Governors of the
several Provinces have agreed to have a well Establish'd & Everlasting
Peace with the Indians, and my Brethren the Delaware & several other
Tribes of Indians joyns[sic] with you in it to Establish it, so that it
be everlasting, you likewise tell you have all agreed a Treaty of
Peace with them to last for ever, and for these reasons I tell you I
am pleased with what you told me. Brother I am heartily
Pleased to hear that you have never let slip the Chain of Friend-
ship out of your Hands, that our Grand Fathers had between them
so that they could agree as Brothers in anything. Brother as you have
been pleased to let me know of that good and agreeable Agreement
that you and my Uncles & Brethren have agreed to at the Treaty of
Peace - I now tell you I heartily joyn[sic] & agree in it & to it & I would
desire you to be strong in the great & good work that you have taken
in Hand and I will do as you desire me to do that is in letting the
other Tribes of Indians know of it and more especially my Uncles the
6 Nations and the Shawanese my Grand Children, and all other Tribes
towards the West. Brother I would desire you not to be out of Patience
as I have a great many Friends at a great Distance & I shall use my
best Endeavours to let them know it as soon as possible & as soon as
I obtain their Answer I shall let you know it.
