8th Mo. 20th 1792
Esteemed Friend
I have attended the Negro business in
in South Carolina and Georgia, the 7th time; but meeting
with disappointment again in Georgia: Occationd by
the Courts being alterd, with respect to time, on which acc.
I was detained about four months; in which time I attended
three courts hoping to finish all the business: but faild of
getting a hearing of three suits, which caus'd me to expend
about thirty pounds four shillings & ninepence, paid for the hire of
two beasts from broad river in South Carolina to Georgia
for the use of witnesses twice: Two pounds eight shillilngs
and other expenses in travelling and att.g courts with the witness
Eleven pounds seven shillings and a penny. Two suits
now depending will come on in 11th Mo. Next at 96, and the
other in Georgia in this Instant, which is out of my power to
attend. Notwithstanding the task has been hard, and the expense
great. I hope friends will perseve in the business. Tho I
expect it will be difficult to get all the Negroes Robt. Moorman sent
off by Martin. Martin afore I got to Georgia
took several of them on to Cantuckey, and others were carried
elsewhere: The dependants intend to prove that they had
not possession of the Negroes when the writ were servd
I have no doubt of obtaining Judgmt, when the suits are
heard. When I was in Georgia I collected a sum of money
for a neighbr. of mine and was under a necessity to make
use of twenty two pounds of it. I most earnestly request it may be
collected and sent up from the Quarterly Meeg. the [?]
of friends suffers with mine on acct. of the money not being
replaced. Please to inform the committee that I am very desirous
of their company and assistance at next court at 96. I am informed there
is a negro woman that R. Morman had in possession since
