Notes	The Pennsylvania Hall Association was a stockholders association formed in 1837 to erect a building in Philadelphia dedicated "to Liberty and the Rights of Man." The Hall was erected on 6th Street, between Cherry and Race Streets. Many of the primary movers behind the Association were Quakers involved in the anti-slavery movement. The building was opened on May 14, 1838, and, as a symbol of the abolitionist movement, was destroyed by an angry mob on May 17, 1838. The destruction of Pennsylvania Hall marked the extreme of anti-abolition violence in the City of Philadelphia, resulting in a reaction which strengthened the cause of anti-slavery.

Transcript	A State meeting of the Pennsylvannia Hall Association was held at Sandford Hall. 1 mo 1st 1838. Arnold Buffum was call'd to the chair and C C Jackson appointed secretary. The Board of managers presented the following report which was adopted. on motion the above report was referred to the manager for the publication of such parts as they may think proper. on motion resolved that the Stockholders approve of the proceedings of the managers in the erection of the Hall as far as it has progress'd and that a note of thanks is due to them for their zeal & unremitted exertions in advancing the interest of the stockholders in said erection. the managers proposed for Trustees the following names who were approved by this association Edw. M. Davis William Harned[?] Davd Neal Fry Jno. Longstreth Cha[d?]. Evans Warner Justice JJ A Wright Caleb Clothier on motion a committee of 5 was appointed to wait on delinquent subscribers the following [???] compose said committee Jno. Longstrath Cha[d?]. Evans Jacob M Elly C Clothier W C Betty on motion the above committee is hereby instructed to communicate with and report to the board of M: on motion the meeting now proceed to elect managers for the ensuing year E.M. Davis and Wm C Betts were appointed tellers[?] & reported the names of Daniel Neall, Joseph M. Truman, Henry Grew, Peter Wright, William H. Scott, Samuel Webb, Joseph Wood, William Dorsey, Thomas Hansell, Samuel Scattergood, William M'Kee, Caleb Clothier, John H. Cavender, as duly elected.
