Dear Friend
Eobert Pleasants
The Vessel ,by which this comes,is so near her departure, that I have
not time to write as fully as I desire, its principally to recommend
to thy care ,a large packet for 2dwd Stabler, which I request thou wilt
cause to he conveyed to him,by some safe opportunity I also send thee
two collection of tracts, the first three pieces in it were printed at
Burlington ,on account of a Bill which i- before their House of
Assembly the 4 & 5 is a Bew gdition of a Piece I sent thee, wrote
by a young Phisya. of this City ,of the Presbyterian Communion;the
second of these thou wilt find was a reply to a piece put forth by a
West Indian in answer to the first; this 1 also send stiched with another
piece ,which is a kind of burlesque ,om the trade .1 aan*t approve of
that way of writing I think serious subjects .should be treated with
seriousness. I should have been glad to have heared by a few lines from
thee ,whether ,mine to then ,with the book intended for Patrick Henry
came to hand. If thou think well of sending him one of the collections
with my best respects ,1 should be pleased. I am glad as I say to
^dw
stabler,in answer to his ,to find the thoughtful amongst you are
not discouraged but rather sink deeper into the consideration of
the pernicious effects d>f Slavery. I trust this prospect will continue,
Sc still increase its wonderful ,what an extensive prospect is every
where opening into the iniquity of the practice all the Colonies to the
northward ,of yours ,have more or less instructed their representatives
to endeavour that an End, may be put to any farther import.
The assembly of Saw Jersey have a till now under their consideration.
Spain, Portugal & of late ^nee have entered Seriously into the matter
