LEAGUE OF UNIVERSAL BROTHERHOOD.
PLEDGE
Believing all war to be inconsistent with the spirit of Christianity and destructructive of the best interests of
mankind, I do hereby pledge myself never to enlist or enter into any army or navy, or to yield any voluntary
support or sanction to the preparation for or prosecution of any war, by whomsoever, or for whatsoever
proposed, declared, or waged. And I do hereby associate myself with all persons, of whatever country, con-
dition, or colour, who have signed, or shall hereafter sign this pledge, in a "LEAGUE OF UNIVERSAL BRO-
THERHOOD; whose object shall be to employ all legitimate and moral means for the abolition of all war, and
all the spirit and all the manifestations of war, throughout the world; for the abolition of all restrictions upon
internationalcorrespondence and friendly intercourse and friendly intercourse, and of whatever else tends to make enemies of nations,
or prevents their fusion into one peaceful brotherhood; for the abolition of all institutions and customs
which do not recognize and respect the image of God and a human brother in every man, of whatever clime,
colour or condition of humanity.

Dear Friend Taylor
I am about to make
a special effort ot bring the whole Antislavery
community of Great Britain into great
Free Labour Produce movement. Everything
is favorable. The British Government, I think
will soon be induced to withdraw its armed
[??isers] for the surpression of the slave trade
and apply its enormous appropriations to other
and more moral or commercial measures
for the achievement of the end to which it has
been aiming for so many years, and at such
a vast expense. The Antislavery men and women
of the Kingdom have nothing before them of
sufficient interest to concentrate their efforts.
Now is the very time to establish a vast
League of all the Abolitionists of Christendom
against the consumption of slave grown
produce. I have conversed with leading Antislavery
men here, and they have expressed themselves
in favour of the movement. I think the means
might be raised for the support of the preliminary
measures, for the establishment of factories,
agents and agencies, etc. Now I can write
but a word, and that is to ask what you
can do between now and next Spring to
