1856 January, Dear Carrie & Nettie

              Fourth dayDear Carrie & NettieI intended writing to you when C. sent her last letter- but she rather discouraged it as she had written you a lengthy epistle which she tho't might suffice for that time but that shall not prevent me now tho' the same reason might apply still as I perceive she has another long missive to dispatch, & wd. have mailed it to day had mine been ready. I have not written to you since the reception of the box & was glad to hear from your last letter that its contents proved so satisfactory. I hope you did not keep the chicks till they were past eating- they ought to have been among the first things disposed of being of a non perishable nature & I was obliged to pack them while warm. George thinks he can take a roast turkey to you in his trunk but do not build your hopes upon it as I doubt his having room. I intend sending 3 turkeys (not roast ones) to Bristol by him- he has not fixed the time for leaving. Last nights mail bro't 2 letters from Edgar, one for Father & the other for C. he descants upon the great storm, & the inconveniences they were subjected to in consequence
