1836 July 9, Haverford, to dear Mother, Philadelphia

              Haverford 7th mo. 9. 1826dear Mother,Although I sit down to answer thy long recieved letter (the only one I have recieved from home this summer) of 5 mo 26 yet perhaps the circumstance of our having had two visits from you, and my having written several letters to Father since then, will account for not having answered it sooner.I suppose you are now nearly settled down to your new habitation, for part of the summer- I hope you will be pleased with it. When you write to us next, you must not forget to give us a long description of the place, people who live there, how you got out etc. You must not forget too to pay us an occasional visit for I have not forgotten that the friend at whose house you are staying said to father when we were with him at Germantown, that he mostly had one or two of his horses not in use- If we could we would pay you an "occasional" visit.How does father expect to get to and from the depot at Germantown- It would be a pretty long walk, but a very pleasant ride- I wish that we were with you, for then besides enjoying your company, we could ramble all around the country with Father and Uncle Alfred, and might perhaps sometimes get a ride on one of his spare horses, to which we would not have much objection.We went over to A. Johnson's this morning. Grandmother sends her love, and said that she was about as well as she was before she left town., that if you intend to go down Jersey on 4th day next, she will come in town on that day, or sooner if she can.
