              Newport 8 mo 16th 676th dayMy dear husbandYesterday noon, we wereall delighted to recieve thy letter from London, and welcome it was to me I canassure thee. I do not understand whythee did not get our first letter sooner.however I felt quite anxious to hear fromthee tho' it was a great relief to hear of thy being in good health by the Telegramwhich [?] rec'd from London a few days ago and verykindly sent word to me of it at once.I feel very grateful to Thomas for his kindnessto me since thy absence,he remembers everything, send on the Living Age, & "nation" everyweek, and thinks of all the needfulmatters, which thee always remembered for me. and tho' we miss him here very muchstill it is pleasant to feel we are not forgotten. Dr. H is very kind too but he lives soabove the little minutia in life an intellect-ual world in himself, which is a very happy thing, both on his own account and thatof his friends, but it is more of an effort forhim to siscend to the common details oflife, and therefore, he cannot always thinkof them, without being reminded. He looksafter the boys for me very carefully, andI feel greatly indebted to him for it, asthey enjoy themselves much more.
