9/12. 93Dear LillieI suppose the boys probably prepared thee for the telegram sent thee this morning by my youngest grandson, though when they left they only knew that aunt Carrie, who was flourishing about the house the evening before, did not come down to breakfast, & that I had gone to town for a nurse, & they had to breakfast almost alone-- as I fancy uncle Will was somewhat unsettled & Geo. Pepper-- the stranger who was within our gates-- “at this unexpected turn of affairs could hardly be expected to see that they had a lunch just up for them-- However they got off all right & I hope reached you safely.Carrie had a tedious & trying time but I hope is doing well. Her boy is a stout little fellow-- the nurse says he will weigh 10 pounds. She-- Mrs Beattie-- got out at noon & before that Miss Harris, Margarets nurse came up & helped Nancy get things fixed & came again in the afternoon & staid till the baby was born a little before 9. It was very well that she was there as the Dr. said had she not been
