1748[?] December 23, Chester County, John Cope & Elizabeth Fisher, Marriage Certificate

              Whereas John Coope of Eastbradford in the county of Chester and province of Pennsylvania yeoman and Elizabeth Fisher, of East Caln in the county and province aforesaid widdow having Declared their intentions of marriage with each other before Severall Monthly Meetings of the people called Quakers in the province aforesaid according to the good order used amongst them whose proceedings therein after a deliberate consideration thereof and having consent of parties concerned and nothing appearing to obstruct, were approved of by the said meetings. Now these are to certifie all whom it may concern that for the full accomplishing of their said intentions this twenty third day of the twelfth month in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven Hundred and Forty Eight Nine. They the said John Coope and Elizabeth Fisther appeared in a Publick meeting of the said people at their meeting house in Westbradford in the county aforesaid and the said John coope taking the said Elizabeth Fisher by the hand did in solemn manner openly Declare that he Took her to be his wife promising through Divine Assistance to be unto her a Loving and faithfull husband untill it should please god by Death to separate them. And then and There in the said assembly the said Elizabeth Fisher did in like manner Declare that she took the Said John coope to be her husband promising through Divine Assistance to be unto him a Loving and faithfull wife untill it Should please god by Death to Separate them (or words to that Effect). And moreover the Said John Coope and Elizabeth Fisher (she according to the Custom of marriage assuming the name of her husband) as a further Confirmation thereof Did then and there to Those presents Set their hands ----And we whose names are hereunder Subscribed-Being present at the solemnization of their Said marriage and Subscription in manner aforesaid as a Wittness Thereunto have also to those presents Set our hands the Day and year Abovewritten - John Coope [?] Elizabeth Coope [?]
