Dear Anna We are much obliged to thee for giving to Carrie as an excuse for our not writing - the heat of the weather - for though we had not thought of it before, it is a very good reason to give & applies with several degrees more reason today. After dinner the thermometer on our back piazza [-----] at [----] degrees. I [----] it then where it could get no reflection from walls or walks & it staid at 78 degrees. There is however a little air stirring when one can get in a place to catch it that is an improvement on last evening when no laves stirred but the [------] - Last night was very uncomfortable though I slept well myself - Tom & Alden though - who had been to the centennial
