              Philada 9 mo 29th 1840Dear BrotherI have nothing of much moment to communicate. The Westtown committee I find meets next 5th day week the 8th next month. I expect I will return on 6th day morning, So that it need not interfere with thy prospect.The Great Western has arrived & brings news of a decline in the Government securities of France & England owing to increasing fears of war. The most probable opinion however seems to be that this dreadful evil will be avoided.The Shenandoah left Liverpool on the 8th [-----]. Freight only 518 British pounds & 100 sacks salt. Nothing doing for the Montezuma.I have engaged nothing yet for the Susquehanna. R & R seem inclined to ship some wheat which I have offered to take at [---]. We have advise of 1100 bbls turpentine coming for her from R W Brown. He gets along slowly with purchases.Mother is better. The rest of us all well.
