Dear Lillie I have thy letter concerning the Dimock Library. I do not know that there is anything better to be done than what you suggest - divide it on condition that an interchange of books be made from time to time. The earliest judicial decision we have recorded, which bought its author great reputation for wisdom, was to divide the child - & as this division will not have the unpleasant consequences which would have attended that - we may lay claim to still greater wisdom - & coming generations of Dimockes look up to us with reverance. I would suggest that a bookplate be engraved with a figure of Justice holding the scales & the motto - Fias Justitia - ruat Coelum - or if you can make any play of words upon Libra - the scales - so much the better. Perhaps Clemmie can put her freshly acquired learning to account & suggest one. You know she is a contributor
