I received letters from thee yesterday & today giving some account of the bank difficulties. It is mortifying after the brags we have been making of the soundness of our way of business to find not only that our city is the first to talk, but that the greater part of the country is [while] to stand the shock occasioned by the suspension of our banks. I hope however that N. York & Boston will continue to stand firm as our Banks must be forced into a resent turn of [special] payments all the sooner for it.We continue to have charming weather. Yesterday was almost too windy but today is perfectly delightful to those who are dressed warm enough. the thermometer hanging out of my window stood at 6 o'clock this morning at 38.°
