Dear Clemmy,
Grandfather this morning told me he wished me to write to thee for him and invite thee to come down and spend the winter with him, and he sends thee the enclosed notes to pay thy passage. So thee sees he takes it for granted that thee will come, and when we consider how lonely as he says himself he will be it seems so desirable to all the family that he should have thee with him that we trust Uncle William and Aunt Susan will be willing to spare thee again. I need not tell thee how glad we shall be to have thee among us, though we do not forget that it will make a break in your family circle. Grandfather spent yesterday in town (which is the day I began this letter & was interrupted and it is the 15th now) and went out to Uncle Edward’s in the afternoon to stay about a week: from there he will go to pay a visit at Uncle Nathaniel's: he does not expect to return to Uncle Alfred's. He has been generally much better than he was in the spring & more cheerful.
