Dear Grandpa,
As mother in her last letter makes some mention of forwarding letters to you at North East I am going to try to give thee a little direct news instead of such second hand stuff. We are; as this large poster at the top of the page is intended to indicate, I suppose, staying at this Hotel de Rome in Venice. Hotel de New York would be a more apporopriate title as the house is full of Americans.
Venice is certainly a most picturesque and interesting place and would be a most attractive place for a long stay if it were not for the Italians and the smells. However in this last respect it is nothing to Desenzano, which
