My dear brother
It was very nice upon our arrival here yesterday to find thy letter awaiting us, and as it was the first tidings we had from home we were not long in opening it- We were very glad to learn that you thought of sending cake to the various persons, as in the multitude of other things we never thought of that- [---] have received our West Point letters, I hope, and know of our doings or rather of our goings up to that time- The next morning we left at half past eleven in the Daniel Drew. The weather was pretty warm but when we got on the boat we had a nice breeze- The Drew maintains her old expectation for speed, and running at the rate of eighteen or twenty miles an hour soon brought us to Rhinebeck
