Newport 8th mo 17th 67
Dear Father
I thought I would write a few lines to thee, as I have not written to thee as yet. We are having a very nice time, but if it wasn't for sailing I would rather be at home. I have not missed one sail while we have been here! We have taken two moonlight sails which were lovely. I guess I will go out now with George Merrit & I will try to finish this this evening or tomorrow. As I had a little time before I went to bed while mother was drying my night-clothes I thought I would add a little to this very long epistle. Uncle Harry lectured last night up
