Dear Mother
I rec'd a letter from Father at Venice wh. Alexis sent from Florence & also one from thee at Milan day before yesterday. It has been a long time since I have written but I have been going so hard & having such a glorious time that it doesn't seem so very long to me. Well to begin at the beginning I left Lou & Alexis at Florence on the 27th & arrived at venice at 5 o'clock in the evening, where I was met by Mr. Barker, a young man we met at Mentone, who had kindly offered his services as circrone(?). It was a most lovely evening
