Dear Cousin Anna
I enclosed for thy perusal a letter which appeared in the N.Y. Tribune of yesterday and which is considered, I believe, to give a pretty fair picture of this place. I must add that, in addition to other features of the easy life of the spot described, there is no adequate protection from rain. Every building on the grounds leaks so far as our observations extend, and they extend a good ways. Last night John was heard moving his bed in a way that suggested no ordinary emergency; and Alfred and I were obliged to do the same to avoid a gentle dropping on his pillow. Alfred and I sleep together since the departure of the first division of the party for the old
