August 12. 87
Dear friend
I could not let our friend Kirk depart without enquiring after the wellfare of my worthy friend Jn. Drinker & familie tho its more then you deserve as I have not heard from you for some time past, but it cannot diminish the affection I have always claimed for yr families though I should be forgotten by you.
I have been very uneasy on account of yr broth. Henry’s wife who I hear is in a very bad state of health & far gone in a consumption pray let me know if she is better, as I doo not chuse to enquire of yr brother for fear of affecting him too much if she is realy as dangerous as represented but I hope not. yr sister stays w’ her son Isac in Georgetown for awhile as his wife is threatened by a consumption & [Belsey?] is very fond of her. Travis is gone to reside in the country of [Name?]. I hope he made you proper remittances for the Goods you send him here he did not answer my Expectation in that sphere of life but I believe it was owing rather to the times then want of application, he is beter calculated for the country as it agrees with him and hopes he will do very well.
Pray what is become of Mrs. Thomas is she well, I got toe better of all her Complaints, she too has forsaken me, tho I love her dearly its in imitation of you I supose yr familie is such formalists for you will never write but in response of some noncence of mine & Hannah follows up. Example. Give my Love to her however & please tell her she is indebted to me a Letter & I hope she will Discharge. Kirk hurries me & I must conclude with love yrself & familie, Henry & all of the Drinkers. I ever am yr affect.
