Can thee read these letters? Now thee is four years old, thee will want to learn all the letters and print them like Agnes does. Thee knows that boys, when they get as old as thee is, should know how to do a great many things. If thee would like to print, ask Mama for a pencil and make ABC, like this. Papa was very glad to get thy letter and hopes thee will write to him again. Where does thee sail thy steamboat and what makes it go? Has it a paddle wheel? I think Grandma was very kind to give it to thee. Uncle Hazen is coming home from over the ocean. We think he will get here tomorrow. Would thee like to go in bathing again when Papa goes on to see you at Newport? Now, dear little four-year-old, I must stop. Thy affectionate Papa
