Awbury 7/22/73
My own dearest sister,
I know how thee will rejoice with me to hear that it is actually all settled, father has given his consent to the announcement of our engagement. It was only arranged yesterday, & I still feel as if I were in a dream from which I must awaken to find things in the old position. I have looked forward to this so long, & it comes upon me so unexpectedly at the last, that it will wear the garb of unreality. Nevertheless it is real. I believe [that] e'er(?) this reaches thee it will no longer be a secret. We have told no one
