Church Lane 1st mo 26 / 76
My dearest sister,
Jonathan has gone down to Frank's for a little while this evening to examine some of the Club books which are to be sold some time soon (I forget when) I thought it would be a good opportunity to hold a little communication with thee. I have just been reading thy letter to mother of the 6th of the present month, and am sorry that thee should have felt as if thee had not the unity of thy relations in your stay at Mentone--I think, dearie, some of Tom's nonsense must have given thee a wrong impression of affairs. I have never had a thought but that your quiet settlement at Mentone was just the best & pleasantest thing you could have done & as far as I remember I have heard no disapprobation expressed by any member of the family. Fanny may not have approved of it, but I do not remember to have heard her say so, and if she did not we all know
