Paris 3rd Month 14th 1840
My Dear Cousin
I suppose you
have through the medium of letters to some of our family
heard of us and our safe arrival in Europe, but in

country we arrived at Paris, during which time we were all
favoured with health, and our children were very good
scarcely uttering a word of complaint of fatigue or any
thing else, this thee may well suppose enhanced our
pleasure, or at least diminished our difficulties, When we
arrived in Paris, we took posession of apartments engaged
for our reception in a French family who speak English, the
family consists of this and five American families, who form
a pleasant domestic circle, they are all plainly disposed
people, some very interesting a Doctor Lowell with his wife
and daughter who have visited most of the countries of
Europe, Egypt, Palestine, are with us, English is spoken at
our table, this altho very pleasant retards our progress in
the acquisition of the french language,
We are situated
in Rue de Rivoli opposite the
