Locust Shade 11.18.1865
My Dear Annie
That
thy very interesting letter has thus long remained
unanswered has been that I have not very often thought of
thee, as I trust thee knowst- and I was much disappointed to
find that I had gone to Germantown a week too soon to see
thee. This to be sure I had but a few hours to stay there,
still I had hoped to spend part of them with thee.- I hope
dear Annie thee is better for thy sojourn at Newport. For I
know the return home without thy father’s welcome must have
been very painful.- even with all the love & kindness of thy
brothers &
