My dear Friend,
I have been waiting till thy
beautiful gift came home, in its Oak Frame, before sending
thee in words the warm thanks which I feel for such an
evidence of thy kind thought. It was, indeed, a surprise, to
me when dear Annie returned, and I shall value the gift not
only for the kind giver’s sake, but for its own intrinsic
beauty.
I wish thee could see it in the Hall – in the
place of honour near
