1848 May 25, Lancaster, to Father

              Lancaster May 25 1848.

Dear Father,
I arrived here yesterday. From this spot, I suppose a few lines may not be unacceptable to thee, though I have little to say, & certainly nothing that is cheerful to communicate.
Soon after my arrival I took the direction of East King St. & presuming it to the second street from the Court House, came to Lime Street, where on turning to the left I recognised the building, which in company with our Dear Elenor, I visited about ten years ago. The house in which thee first saw the light is in good preservation, and occupied by the present Dr. [Breneman], his father having paid the debt of mature a few months ago. 
The business I came about not being ready, I was prevailed upon to spend the evening alone with Judge Ellis/Lewis, who kindly enquired after thy health &c. As he had often been familiar with my house, he was anxious to know how [Mrs.] Tyson was. After the sad journey I had made, & the feeling of blank dissolution which oppresed my heart during the day, this question almost deprived me of the power of utterance. I hoped to avoid any allusion to this agonizing subject in writing to thee, but I am too full of my precious Elenor's image & memory now to prevent its overflow in words.
