Philada. Nov. 22 1812My dear William,Joshua Kimber deliver'd thy Letter and sat some time with me. It was a satisfactory visit, and I took it very kind. Attention to Strangers occupied me during the rest of the day and evening, and precluded all chance of writing to thee by him.Thy sister C- left us on 7th day last. She was with us 4 Weeks and two days. Her visit was prolonged by waiting for her Cousin Maryann C- whose Aunt Eliza Cooper declining more rapidly, engross'd her Mother so much, that she was from time to time prevented preparing her. Eliza is yet alive, but her Friends are waiting round her, with less resignation perhaps, than herself, for the final close. No hopes of Life are cherish'd, but such is her favor'd state, so passive, so happy, so much tranquil sweetness that her approaching change might be more rationally envied than lamented.Caroline left us with some degree of Heroism tho' I believe it was close work. Upon the whole she had a pretty happy time- and was lss for parties than formerly. She had a beautiful little Canary Bird presented to her with an elegant Gilt Cage, by a Captain Thomas
