Wilkes barre 5 mo 6 1867Dear BrotherAs thee knows it was my intention on leaving home not to take much time in writing thee will not be surprised at receiving only a short letter, but having a little spare time I thought it would be best to let you know a little about our movements & intentions. We got to Port Carter very comfortably on 6th day-- the house there is fair, but I suppose better than any in the town. Finding the stage only went in the afternoons & did not arrive at Mauch Church till late in the eveng or night we hired a carriage left Pottsville at 9 in the morng. dined at Tumagua & reached Mauch Church about 5 in the aft. a pretty rough ride but much more comfortable than staging wd have been. Mother had left word
