Woodbourne 9 mo. 1. 1833.Dear S. I am not certain but that I owe thee and apology for not having paid thee a visit during the Summer that has just expired. time flies on eagle's wings & I hope when it shall bring about the period at which I may again see thee that I shall find thee joucund as the lamb, and that I shall be as welcome as the lark & linnet to the new born day: that I may be the cause of weal and not of woe. I am amusing myself with painting and giving some of the last touches or finishing strokes to my new palace, so that I intend to render myself as irresistible as Johnny Vanderbocker thought he should be when he offered himself to Lucy Atherton. wide {?]"the Village Musician" by the author of "Legends of the West." I am fond of the cottage stile myself, but I shall be more imposing by having it my power to afford a choice. thee will please not however to draw any incorrect inferences, but stand by what I have just written that, I am some times fond of a joke when it is not practiced at the expense of an-other; and that in mentioning my palace, I take the poetic licence of comparing small things to great. __the person who has charge of my concerns here, says that he has to go to England, and I have not as yet been able to find any one who is willing to come and supply his place before November next. I wish that thyself or some as good hearted being would send me a substitute in order that I may come and see thee soon. I wrote to thee
