Button/Pin/Ribbon CollectionSwarthmore
College Peace Collection
The button, pin and ribbon collection currently contains
over 1,300 items and continues to expand. These items
have been donated over many years to the Peace Collection
(SCPC) by individual peace activists and peace organizations.
Items date from the nineteenth century through the twenty-first
century and highlight the ideas and activities of the
peace movement. The collection documents decades of political
grassroots action in the areas of peace and promotes the
causes of human rights, women's rights, temperance, and
labor rights. Buttons from World War I, the Vietnam War
era, the anti-nuclear movement of the 1980s, and various
legislative political campaigns are especially well represented.
The record for each button, pin, or ribbon contains
an image of the item, descriptive information about the
item, provenance, organization or company that created
the item, and date and historical context when known.
