| Title [translation] | Let the Wife Fear the Husband |
| Remaining Text [translation] | Having spent his last penny on wine and a snack, the husband had long returned from Mass on the "joyous" holiday. There's accounting for losses on a holiday.... Like Satan, the drunken husband starts in on his wife like a fierce beast. Deaf to the screams, he tears out long locks of hair.... And above the savage scene, Christ is visible in the air. He blesses the husband for punishing the slave and teaches patience to the one who is barely alive from the beating.... Nearby an old woman, stupefied from fasting, is kneeling and looking tenderly at the hovering Christ.... "Let the wife fear the husband!" What can be more shameful in our days, what can be worse than this malicious chatter? The priest and sectarian do not stand around gawking, but foment trouble with a clever lie that exhorts evil husbands to beat their submissive wives.... But the harm of the priestly tales about the imaginary Christ is unclear only to someone who has an empty head! |
